Concept Note

Language has played a vital role in human growth from ages being the medium of communication between people of various communities residing in different geographical zones of the world. And no doubt, English language has always reigned and proven itself the most significant, common and wide-reaching language on the globe. As a result of its significance, human growth has been multi-dimensionally boosted up and can be observed in various sectors. Therefore researchers and academicians have also been inclined more and more with passing time to do further apt studies in the area of English Language to broaden up their knowledge.

For this reason, authentic layouts are being followed and discussed how and what kind of research has been done over past decades looking at altered roles that are given to English such as for employability, in international mobility, as a key for unlocking development opportunities and widely used language. Hereafter, more research is required before we completely recognize both the importance of English in human development and the advances already done in the area.

Anticipating the inclination of researchers in academia far and wide to research and know more about vistas and advances of the language and its role in societal upliftment, this Conference aims to bring together and provide a platform to all such interested scholars to share their opinions, viewpoints and researches for their elevation and enhancement of their existing knowledge.

Submissions may include, but are not limited to, an exploration of the following subthemes: sociolinguistics, multiculturalism, multilingualism, constructivism, communication studies, linguistic ethnography, intertextuality, narratology, deconstruction, post-structuralism, semantics, pragmatics, semiotics, speech acts, translation theory, machine translation, language learning theories, classroom language(s), language teaching methodology, teaching strategies and styles, teacher identities, innovative approaches, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, language acquisition, language and literature studies, language and communication, language and culture, language and psychology, language and technology, language learning and teaching.

NOTE: The above subthemes are indicative and not exhaustive. Scholars can formulate a more comprehensive and relevant theme within the framework of English Language and Literature.

Dr Rosemary Douglas

Global ELT Expert
The Scottish Centre for International Education Moray House Institute of Education Edinburgh University

The major part of her professional career has been as a lecturer in The Scottish Centre for International Education at Moray House Institute of Education, now part of Edinburgh University. Her responsibilities latterly were primarily in TESOL: Curriculum studies, Methodology and Teacher Education, also Dissertation supervision. She also taught Malaysian pre-service teachers for several years on a Bed TESOL degree which involved supervising and assessing teaching practice in Malaysian secondary schools, also two years secondment to Malaysia’s National Teacher Training Institute (MPIK). In the late 90s she was seconded to the Agha Khan Foundation as project manager for their education reform project in Gorno-Badakhshan, Pamir in Tajikistan, where she worked with education professionals at all levels from primary to higher education, advising on issues such as infrastructure reform, finance, management, curriculum, materials and methodology, especially but not exclusively for language education. She has been involved in Education and English language teacher development projects in many countries, for example Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, Angola, India, China, Switzerland. She has delivered CELTA, DELTA, COTE and DOTE courses and was Cambridge external examiner for two years.

Previous to her career in Teacher Education, she taught Russian and French in Scottish secondary schools, ESL in Further Education College, also EAP in Edinburgh University’s Language School.

She is now retired, but still supervises and assesses MSc TESOL and Language Education dissertations part time. She also teaches a variety of classes in ESL for adult migrants in her local area. She has recently been involved in examining a Doctoral thesis based on an action research project evaluating Saudi Arabian secondary school EFL coursebook materials, focussing on listening, text and task authenticity, autonomy and motivation.

Dr Paritosh Chandra Dugar

Retd. Principal, Government P.G. College, Udaipur

 

Dr. Paritosh Chandra Dugar has taught English language and literature to undergraduate and postgraduate students for 38 years at various government colleges of Rajasthan. He obtained his Master’s in English in 1976 from Udaipur University (now, Mohanlal Sukhadia University), Udaipur. He holds a doctorate in American Literature. His main areas of interest are ELT, critical thinking, mysticism, rhetoric, and creative writing. Dr. Dugar is a recipient of the prestigious Olive I. Reddick Prize (Best Dissertation Award) of American Studies Research Centre (now, Osmania University Centre for International Studies), Hyderabad. He has participated in various international conferences as a plenary speaker/resource person in India, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines. Dr. Dugar has authored several books and published research papers in edited books as well as national and international research journals. He has also contributed short stories and feature articles to the Times of India. He has been a subject expert at Rajasthan Public Service Commission and a textbook writer for Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. After his retirement as Principal of a postgraduate college of Rajasthan, he worked as Managing Editor of four research journals published by Pacific University, Udaipur.  He is an internationally published writer of flash fiction and a winner in two international flash fiction writing contests.

Devika Brendon is a writer, teacher, editor and reviewer of English Language and Literature. She is the Senior Content Editor of the literary journal New Ceylon Writing, established in 1970 and brought online in 2016. Devika’s short stories and poetry have been published in journals and anthologies including Quadrant magazine, Back Story, Other Terrain, Brave World, and Time of the Poet Republic. Prof. (Dr) Yaseer Al Tamimi, Saudi Arabia

Associate Professor of Linguistics, Al Faisal University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Yasser A. Al Tamimi, Associate Professor of linguistics, and Chair of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Faisal University in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, received his PhD in Linguistics in 2002 from the University of Reading, United Kingdom. Dr. Al Tamimi taught at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels a number of language and linguistic courses, including phonetics and phonology, morphology, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, pragmatics, in addition to applied linguistics in a number of universities in the UK, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

His research interest covers a wide range of linguistic areas, with clear focus on phonetics and phonology.  More specifically his many publications have addressed the following topics: Arabic- English voice dysfunction in laryngeal pathology, speaker’s recognition, phonotactics of the Arabic complex coda, sonority principles, discourse analysis, phonological variations in East London English; in Southern British Standard; and in Jordanian Arabic, phonological theory and linguistically unconditioned variability, binomials in Arabic dialects, phonological awareness intervention, phonological awareness and word reading, Romanized Arabic e-messages, English curriculum development, communicative ability through interactive approaches, and Phonological features of Saudi names (among some other topics) .

Dr. Motikala Subba Dewan is President of Nepal English Language Teachers Association. She is an Associate Professor, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. She is Vice President of Yalambar Research Foundation (Kirat Indigenous Group). She has more than twenty years of teaching experience and has been keynote speaker in several National and International conferences of repute widely in the areas of TESOL, ELT, Communication Skills and Soft Skills. He has also worked as Executive Director of Human Rights Home.

Prof. (Dr) Z.N.Patil

President, ELTAI Pune Chapter

Professor Z. N. Patil is the President of ELTAI (English Language Teachers’ Association of India) Pune Chapter. He has been teaching English language and literature at several schools, colleges, institutes, cemtres and universities in India and abroad for 47 years. He retired as Professor of English and Head of the Department of Training and Development, English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, India. Since then he has been freelancing in India and abroad. 

He has delivered sponsored, 32 invited keynote addresses and 78 plenary talks at national and international conferences in Bangladesh, Britain, Canada, China, Dubai, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey. Prof. (Dr) Rajul Bhargava

Professor Rajul Bhargava, Former Head, Department of English, University of Rajasthan (2006-2008),Former Head, Department of English, Central University of Haryana (2009-2012),has an MA in English and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Rochester USA and a PhD in the Sociology of Literature. She has been the recipient of the New York State Scholarship, the Charles Walcott Trust Scholarship and the Ray Tongue Grant and other bursaries. She has 42 years of teaching and research experience in both Linguistics and Literature having supervised over 70 PhD and M Phil dissertations in both the disciplines. Her publications include more than 64 papers in National and International journals and books and she herself is the author of 10 books. She has delivered Keynote addresses and Plenaries in Seminars and Conferences, both in India and abroad. She has successfully completed two Major and two Minor UGC Research Projects during her tenure. She has been a long standing member of TESOL,IATEFL,ELTAI,ANUPI,ASRC ,the Steinbeck Society of America, British Council and American Center and has actively contributed to these forums. She was the founder Secretary of MELUS ,India in 1998 and Secretary Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan,Jaipur. She has been in Academic positions on many Boards of Studies and Management in various Universities across the country and helped to plan and institute their Vision Documents, Curricula and Syllabuses as well as prepare Study Materials. Prof Bhargava has organized many Orientation and Refresher Courses in the Rajasthan University and delivered talks and conducted Workshops at others in different states. She has served in various administrative capacities in various Institutions. She is the Founder and Editor of VOICES and brings out a bi-annual journal and organizes Roundtables under its aegis.

Dr. Srinivasa Rao Idapalapati is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Kapil Singhel, Associate Professor, heads the Postgraduate Teaching Department of English at Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, Nagpur. With a teaching experience of more than twenty -four years and assigned with the responsibility of IQAC coordinator, four students have been awarded Ph.D. and two students have completed M.Phil under him.  Selected through Maharashtra Public Service Commission he served Junior College from 1994 and was then promoted to senior college on 13 October 2007. A member of Board of Studies in English, he has been a part of the syllabi designing committee at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur for undergraduate and postgraduate courses which were implemented in 2012-13, 2016-17 and 2020-21. He was in the editorial board of the book The Knowledge Tree prescribed for Compulsory English by the universities at Nagpur, Ramtek and Gujarat. His book, English Literature from the Elizabethan Age to Restoration Period edited along with two other contributors has been a part of first year course of English Literature introduced in 2020-21. He has to his credit twenty papers published in the peer reviewed /UGC Care listed journals of national and international repute, four chapters in book and eighteen papers published in conference proceedings. He has been chairman/resource person in more than 30 National, International, regional seminars, conferences. His area of expertise and interest embraces the present Indian Writings and English Drama that propagates social reforms.

Dr. Sarika Gupta Tyagi

Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences and Languages at VIT, Vellore (Tamilnadu).

Dr. Sarika Gupta Tyagi is an Associate Professor, School of Social Sciences and Languages at VIT, Vellore (Tamilnadu). She did her Ph. D. in English on Virginia Woolf from CCS University, Meerut, (U.P.). She has more than fifteen years of teaching experience and has presented numerous papers in National and International conferences of repute widely in the areas of ELT, Communication Skills, Soft Skills, 20th Century British Literature and Gender issues. She has published more than 65 papers in National/International and Scopus Indexed Journals. Besides, her contribution in publication also includes several book chapters and conference proceedings. 

She has Conducted Faculty Development Programs in Soft Skills and workshop for Techniques in Teaching English Language, Use of ICT in Education, Vocabulary Enhancement, and Writing for Research etc. Under her guidance, six students have been awarded with PhD degree and six are ongoing in literature.

She has published ten books in Hindi poetry and ELT namely “Pani Par Lakeeren”,“EkKiranUjala,  “KhilUthePalash”, “ShabdonKePul”, “Hawa Mein Shabd”, “Shabdonke Canvas “, “ShabdonkeKolaj, “ShabdShabdZindagi”, “Sanson Key Anubandh” and “Teaching English Language: A New Perspective”. For her contribution in education and research, she has been conferred with prestigious ‘ShikshaRatna” and “Sahitya Shree” awards. She has also receivedDr APJ Abdul Kalam Awardfor Teaching Excellence in 2018. Recently she has been conferred with Scientific Excellence Award 2019.

Dr Parul Mishra

Dr Parul Mishra is currently working with Amity University Rajasthan, as a professor of
English at Amity School of Languages. She has total 20 years of teaching and research
experience. She is the internal member of Board of Studies, English; External BoS Member
Amity Mumbai, Member Selection Committee, Amity Gwalior. She has 29 research articles
published to her credit in reputed national/international journals and Books. Apart from
working as professor of English, she is programme coordinator of PG in English and PhD
Coordinator of Amity school of Languages.

 

Dr Ravi Kumar Mishra

Doctorate in English Literature from Jiwaji University Gwalior Madhya Pradesh.

Dr Ravi Kumar Mishra is from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. He is doctorate in English Literature from Jiwaji University Gwalior Madhya Pradesh. His zone of interest is segregate composing. He has more than 12 years experience.

He is a Research Guide and guiding Ph D Students. He has published four books Pearls from the Ocean, Professional Communication Skills, Poetry Collection and Journey towards Perfection. He is also editor in Research Scholar an International Refereed E-Journal of Literary Exploration (ISSN No.2320-6101).

Dr. Shalini Yadav

PhD in Post-colonial Literature and M. Phil in ELT from University of Rajasthan.

Dr Shalini Yadav holds a PhD in Post-colonial Literature and M. Phil in ELT from University of Rajasthan. She has done a course in Advanced Creative Writing from University of Oxford, UK. She has progressive teaching experience of 15 years at college level in India, Libya and Saudi Arabia. She has participated and presented papers in many conferences, chaired sessions and delivered lectures. She has edited and authored 10 books. Many of her short stories and poems have been published in peer-reviewed journals and anthologies, besides, she is member of various literary and poetry societies. Additionally, she has meticulously written research articles for various International refereed journals and edited volumes and is also reviewer of various qualitative International journals of different countries.

Dr. Rani Rathore

Associate Professor in the Dept. of English

Dr. Rani Rathore has 15 years of teaching experience. She has been associated with ICG ,now IIS (deemed to be University) since 2008.She is a Associate Professor in the Dept. of English . She was Head of the Dept. from 2015-18.She is a member of various Committees and Academic Bodies.

Her area of specialization includes; Indian Writing in English but her interests varies from British to Twentieth Century, Post Modern, and Diaspora to Critical Theories. She has published research articles in national, international and UGC CARE listed journals and is also a published bilingual poet. She has so far 03 PhD awarded under her supervision and at present has 06 Ph. D registered scholars who are working in the varied fields viz. Children’s Literature, Diaspora Studies, Gender Studies and Cusine Studies. 

Other than academics, she is a Pranic Healer and a Tarot Card Reader and loves to spend time in the company of nature.

Dr Shreya Chatterji

Dr. Shreya Chatterji holds a Ph. D in English Literature from University of Rajasthan and is presently working as PGT English in Mayo College Girls School, Ajmer. She writes scholarly articles on Language and Literature for refereed journals and anthologies. She has been invited as Resource Person and Keynote Speaker in numerous webinars and seminars.

Dr. Neelam Yadav has taught English to undergraduates in various colleges of University of Delhi. Currently working as a permanent faculty in the Department of English at Delhi College of Arts & Commerce, University of Delhi, Dr. Yadav loves travelling and watching travel series. She completed her BA, MA and MPhil in English Literature from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. She has done her PhD in 2014 on title, “On Going An Indian Journey: Changing Perspectives in the Travelogues of Ajneya, William Dalrymple, Nirmal Verma and V.S. Naipaul.” Her interest area includes Travel Writing, Women Studies and African American literature. Jaipur formerly Jeypore, is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Rajasthan. As of 2011, the city had a population of 3.1 million, making it the tenth most populous city in the country. Jaipur is also known as the Pink City, due to the dominant colour scheme of its buildings. It is also known as the Paris of India, and Dr. C.V. Raman called it the Island of Glory. It is located 268 km (167 miles) from the national capital New Delhi. Jaipur was founded in 1727 by the Kachhwaha Rajput ruler Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amer, after whom the city is named. It was one of the earliest planned cities of modern India, designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. During the British Colonial period, the city served as the capital of Jaipur State. After independence in 1947, Jaipur was made the capital of the newly formed state of Rajasthan. Jaipur is a popular tourist destination in India and forms a part of the west Golden Triangle tourist circuit along with Delhi and Agra (240 km, 149 mi). It also serves as a gateway to other tourist destinations in Rajasthan such as Jodhpur (348 km, 216 mi), Jaisalmer (571 km, 355 mi), Bharatpur (186 km,116 mi), Udaipur (421 km,262 mi), Kota (252 km,156 mi) and Mount Abu (520 km, 323 mi). On 6 July 2019, UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed Jaipur the “Pink City of India” among its World Heritage Sites. The city is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Amer Fort and Jantar Mantar.
